I make films, tell stories, and create strange little worlds that are lived-in, soulful, and undeniably Black.

I’m a storyteller who moves between genres—grounded drama, high fantasy, queer-centered narratives, and Afro-folk horror that creeps up on you. I am also a Creative Director, I've been a Designer and Creator since the days of Black Planet and MySpace, customizing profiles for friends and other members.

Jae Gilyard is a Writer/Director whose work moves fluidly between the strange, the soulful, and everything in between. Their storytelling stretches across genres—one day rooted in intimate drama, another in expansive high fantasy, and in the unsettling corners of Afro-folk horror.

Regardless of form, Jae’s work is grounded in what feels true: authentic characters, layered histories, and uncanny moments that linger long after the story ends.
They currently serve as the Griot and Culture Keeper of Stantonville, a fictional city for Kinfolk; Jae has crafted the expansive high-fantasy realm of Black Caesar and the queer-focused dramatic experience M is for…

Inspired by Black folklore, The Black Experience and all of its intersections, ancestors, and the weight of legacy, Jae creates narratives that honor tradition while reimagining the boundaries of genre and storytelling.
